This morning, His Holiness was driven in an open golfcart from his residence to the pavilion at the far end of the Shewatsel Teaching Ground. More than 45,000 people are estimated to have gathered to listen to his explanation of Shantideva's ‘Entering the Way of a Bodhisattva’.

On learning that Nobel Laureate, Lord David Trimble had passed away His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote to his widow, Lady Trimble to express his sadness.

This morning His Holiness the Dalai Lama consecrated the newly constructed Thiksey Library and Learning Centre, a project for which he conducted the ground-breaking ceremony in July 2018.

Having arrived in Ladakh on 15th July, His Holiness the Dalai Lama undertook his first public engagements today, making pilgrimages to the Jokhang, the principal Buddhist Temple in the center of Leh, the Jama Masjid and Anjuman-e-Imamia mosques, as well as the Moravian Church in Leh.

Following the announcement of the results of the recent election, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has written to Shrimati Droupadi Murmu to congratulate her on being elected President of India, the most populous democratic nation in the world.
